چکیده

This paper extends binary support vector machines to multiclass classification for recognising emotions from speech. We apply two standard schemes (one-versus-one and one-versusrest) and two schemes that form a hierarchy of classifiers each making a distinct binary decision about class membership, on three publicly-available databases. Using the OpenEAR toolkit to extract more than 6000 features per speech sample, we have been able to outperform the state-of-the-art classification methods on all three databases.

Object Recognition Using Hierarchical SVMs

The paper deals with the object recognition problem. The objective is to localize and recognize the known objects in different orientations on cluttered background. As a learning tool we choose support vector machines (SVMs). To eliminate the problem caused by cluttered background we organize the image pixels in tree structures, which enable us to deal only with the object pixels. Both, oneand ...

Ensemble Methods of Appropriate Capacity for Multi-Class Support Vector Machines

Roughly speaking, there is one single model of pattern recognition support vector machine (SVM), with variants of lower popularity. On the contrary, among the different multi-class SVMs (M-SVMs) published, none is clearly favoured. Although several comparative studies between M-SVMs and decomposition methods have been reported, no attention had been paid so far to the combination of those model...

Multi-View Face Recognition with Min-Max Modular Support Vector Machines

As a result of statistical learning theory, support vector machines (SVMs)[23] are effective classifiers for the classification problems. SVMs have been successfully applied to various pattern classification problems, such as handwritten digit recognition, text categorization and face detection, due to their powerful learning ability and good generalization ability. However, SVMs require to sol...

Fingerprint classification using one-vs-all support vector machines dynamically ordered with naive Bayes classifiers

Fingerprint classification reduces the number of possible matches in automated fingerprint identification systems by categorizing fingerprints into predefined classes. Support vector machines (SVMs) are widely used in pattern classification and have produced high accuracy when performing fingerprint classification. In order to effectively apply SVMs to multi-class fingerprint classification sys...

Speaker-sensitive emotion recognition via ranking: Studies on acted and spontaneous speech

We introduce a ranking approach for emotion recognition which naturally incorporates information about the general expressivity of speakers. We demonstrate that our approach leads to substantial gains in accuracy compared to conventional approaches. We train ranking SVMs for individual emotions, treating the data from each speaker as a separate query, and combine the predictions from all ranker...
